Northview's track teams geared up for the Big Four meet on Saturday with a dual meet victory over the visiting South Putnam Eagles on Wednesday evening.

The Northview boys got a school record heave of 52-7 by Neil Vanatti in the shotput, besting his own mark from earlier this season. Vanatti also took home the evening's title in the discus with a throw of 138-8 that helped propel the squad to a 94 to 38 win over the Eagles.

Shaun Hardey also was a key contributor, winning the 100 meters (11.1) and the 200 (23.0) in individual events and was a member of the winning 400 relay squad (44.8) with Dustin Pruett, Broc Miller and Devon Chamberlain.

In the girls event, the Knights got three victories from Hannah Hunter in the 200 (28.6), 400 (1:05.6) and the 1,600 relay (4:38) along with Kylee Thacker, Renee Leslie and Emily Chiles.

Kaley Huffman contributed a victory in the 100 meters in 13.1 seconds to go with a relay win in the 400 along with teammates Leslie, Andrea Thomas and Elle Kleiber.

The Northview boys got a strong effort across the board with wins coming from Jared Timm in the 400 (53.7), James Grounds in the 1,600 (4:47.6), Griffin Mauer in the 110 hurdles (17.9) and Cole Doyle in the pole vault (10-6). Hunter Reberger took the top spot in the 800 meters (2:07) and Brodee Miller won the high jump (5-6).

Mauer was also a second place finisher in the 300 hurdles and Hank Weishaupt was the runnerup in the 400, Landry Moore took second in the 800 meters. Drew White placed second to Grounds in the 1,600 and Chris Smith was second in the 3,200 with Jordan Mauer second in the pole vault.

The 3,200 relay team was a winner as Moore, Grounds, Weishaupt and Reberger won in a time of 8:54.

Other winners for the girls team were Thacker in the 800 meters (2:46) followed by Brittney Spugnardi. Shandi Travis won the high jump for the Knights with a leap of 5-0 and placed second in the 100 hurdles besides a third place finish in the 300 hurdles behind second place Kaley Huffman, making her debut in the event.

Andrea Thomas won the pole vault for Northview and was the runnerup in the long jump and in field events, Ashley McDonald and Rachael Packard took the top two spots in the discus. McDonald repeated with a victory in the shotput.

Emily Chiles was a runnerup in the 400 meters and Jennifer Jeffers took second in the 1,600 ahead of Cassandra Barnett. Thomas was third in the 100 meters for Northview.

In relay events, the team of Barnett, Thacker, Spugnardi and Allie True won the 3,200 meter event in 11:45.

Northview will compete on Saturday morning at the Big Four Meet at Terre Haute South beginning at 10 a.m. and in the the Western Indiana Conference meets next week. The girls will compete at Edgewood on Wednesday night beginning at 5 p.m. and the boys will at home on Friday evening.
