Clay City and Northview victorious

The Northview baseball team wasted little time in putting away a 12-2 win against Greencastle on Tuesday evening.

The Knights drilled the Tiger Cubs for nine runs in the first inning to cruise to their 21st win of the season against just three losses.

Jesse Johnson had three hits, including a double and scored three runs for the Knights and Keaton Robertson contributed a two-run double in the five inning victory. John Reberger doubled and drove home a run and Cody Crooks had a pair of hits with two RBIs. Both Graig Bass and Austin Bryan had a hit and an RBI for the Knights who got a complete game pitching performance from J.J. Smerdel who won his fourth game.

Smerdel allowed just two hits, struckout two and allowed two runs to advance to 4-0 this year.

Northview is 21-3 and will hold Senior Night on Thursday evening against Cloverdale at 7 p.m. with a doubleheader on Saturday at Beech Grove.

South Putnam 9

The Clay City Eels held off a bottom of the seventh inning rally by the South Putnam Eagles to earn a 10-9 victory on Tuesday night.

The Eels got a two hits, including a homerun, and two RBIs from Andre Hayes and Austin Vansickle had a bases clearing double to score three runs. Will Kennedy doubled as part of his two hits and Ryan Sutton doubled in a run.

Tim Shaw had the pitching victory for the Eels and is 2-4 overall.

Clay City is now 7-10 overall this season.
