Clay County teams posted strong showings in the Clay Youth League's 2006 June Bash tournament at Forest Park.
The event drew 20 teams from as far away as Mattoon, Ill., and wrapped up Monday night with an all-Clay County championship game in the 12-and-under division. Led by two-time Indiana State All-Stars Coleman Craig, Zach Hull, Jordan Girton and Bryant Pestoff, the Clay County 12-year-old All-Stars outlasted the Clay County Knights on their way to a 6-4 victory.
Jordan Girton and Bryant Pestoff each had a pair of hits for the two-time defending state champion All-Stars. Ben Denker and Cam Guy also contributed hits in the victory. Starting pitcher Coleman Craig threw three innings, then handed the ball to Zach Hull, who tossed 3 innings in relief to get the win.
The Clay County 8-year-olds captured the 8-and-under division championship, while the 10-year-old Clay County squad finished second to Shakamak in the 10-and-under division.
