Post 346 advances to state tourney

Wayne Newton Post 346 swept a pair of games on Sunday to win the American Legion regional baseball tourney.

Post 346 fought their way out of the loser's bracket after losing their first game on Saturday, 9-5 to Muncie Post 19.

Forced to win twice on Sunday, Post 346 got an 8-for-10 day at the plate from Northview graduate Brady Shoemaker. He homered in each game to boost the team to 9-5 and 15-8 wins against Muncie Post 19.

Shoemaker went 5-for-5 in the clinching game with a homerun, double and four RBIs after picking up three hits with a homerun, double and two runs driven in during the earlier victory.

Post 346 opened the tourney on Friday night with a 15-1 win against St. Leon Post 464 before splitting on Saturday. The team lost to Muncie in the first game before rebounding with an 11-0 win over Madison Post 9 in which John Reberger contributed a pair of singles.

In the final two days of the tourney, Shoemaker was a combined 11-of-16 from the plate while driving in 11 runs with three homeruns. He has 15 for the Wayne Newton Post 346 (25-4) who advances to the state tournament against host Plymouth at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
