Wayne Newton Post 346 completed an unbeaten American Legion Regional Tourney by scoring eight runs in the top of the 11th inning to win the championship game 11-4 over Limestone, Ill. on Monday night.
Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, Northview graduate Brady Shoemaker doubled down the rightfield line and advanced to third base on Nick Ciolli's lineout to centerfield. Skyler Pearson fouled out and Shoemaker scored from third base to tie the game.
Shoemaker kicked off the decisive 11th inning by walking and then advancing on a single by Ciolli. Northview graduate John Reberger reached on an error that scored Shoemaker and another error scored Ciolli. Andrew Woodason reached on a second error before a walk to John Rosselli.
Cole Vicars would hit an RBI single to start the carousel that included a 3-run homerun by Shoemaker that broke open the game and Wayne Newton Post 346 scored eight times on four hits and three errors by Limestone.
Shoemaker was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs in the game with two doubles and the homerun.
The current Olney Central Blue Knight was a combined 13-of-21 with 12 runs driven in and eight runs scored. He doubled five times, tripled twice and homered in the title game plus walked three times in five games. His slugging percentage for the tourney was a staggering 1.190 with an on base percentage of .680.
The regional championship advances Wayne Newton Post 346 to the American Legion Baseball World Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa held August 18-22. The squad will face the Mid-South champion, in the second session beginning at 4:30 p.m.
