Clay City opens cross-country

Clay City's boys cross country team kicked off their season with a trip to the Terre Haute South Early Bird Meet held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course this weekend where they placed eighth as a team featuring several of the state's top-ranked squads.

Bloomington North, paced by state finalist Michael Hoffman, was the team winner with 25 points and Hoffman was the individual winner in 16:15.

Brown County's Curtis Carr was the runnerup in 16:43 for the Eagles who placed seventh as a team.

The Clay City boys were led by Adam Schroer's 31st place time of 18:42 followed by Logan Bettenbrock in 32nd (18:45). The Eels had a good solid pack in the meet, but need to move their pack forward to move up in the team standings throughout the season.

Braxton Griffith was 36th for the Eels in 18:56 with Ben Dickey in 45th, Tyler Moon was 46th followed by Parker Modesitt in 48th and Austin Vansickle in 51st.
