The North Clay 7th grade football team started off the 2006 season with a 56-0 victory over the South Vermillion Wildcats.
The Knights received the opening kickoff with a 50 yard return by Dillon Reynolds. On the next play halfback, Chance Talbot broke through the line for a 30 yard run and a 6-0 lead.
The Knights defense held the Wildcats on there first possession and forced the punt. Weak safety Kodie Girton returned the punt 45 yards to set up a 2 yard touchdown pass to Chance Talbot. The 2 point conversion was good, giving the Knights a 14 -0 first quarter lead.
Halfback Damon Hyatt ran a 30 yard touchdown to start the second quarter, followed by a 2 point conversion pass to tight end, Bryant Pestoff to set the score at 22-0.
On the Wildcats next possession the defense held and set up a 47 yard run by Damon Hyatt for a 28-0 lead.
Later in the 3rd quarter flanker, Dillon Reynolds shocked the crowed with a 40 yard reverse for another Knight touchdown, making the score 34-0. Damon Hyatt, scored on the Knights next possession with a 5 yard pass reception, followed by the 2 point conversion putting the score at 42-0 lead.
Weak safety, Kodie Girton closed out the 1st half with an interception return for a 40 yard T.D. giving the Knights a 48-0 halftime lead.
Defensive standouts for the game were LBers Damon Hyatt and Chance Talbot. Also, the defensive.
The line consisting of Ethan Stewart, Aaron See and Tanner Glenn had a solid performance.
The Knights next game will be , Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. as they travel to Owen Valley.
