North Clay kicks off volleyball year
North Clay's seventh grade volleyball team opened the season with their second victory in as many contests, taking a 21-10, 22-19 win against Honey Creek on Wednesday night, following a hard fought 25-21, 22-25, 15-4 win against North Central on Tuesday.
In their season opener, Ashlen Buck had 18 service points with 11 aces and Kylie McKee rang up seven service points with two aces. Dallas Butts added five points along with Sarah Phillips and Kelsey Oehler.
Samantha Montague and Carson Manke each had four points.
Clarissa Sullivan, Briana Cook, Butts, Manke, Abby Hayes and Montague each had a kill while Buck had two.
In Wednesday's matchup, Buck had seven points with four aces, two assists and a kill. McKee added in four aces and four aces for the Knights.
Cook had six points, two assists with teammate Courtney Anderson adding in four service points in the victory. Shelly Nelson added in three more points.
The North Clay eighth grade hasn't fared quite as well, dropping to 0-2 following a 15-21, 8-21 loss to Honey Creek.
Emily Harden and Hannah Hayes had four points with Hayli Timberman adding in three points with an ace.
Against North Central, the Knights fell in a 14-25, 22-25 match despite seven pints apiece from Jessie Timberman and Kaylee Clark. Hayli Timberman added in four points with Kendra McCrea adding in three points with two aces.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday morning against Woodrow Wilson at 9 a.m.
