John C. Cantonwine, 82, of Greencastle, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Putnam County Hospital.
He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Greencastle. He was the son of Claude and Reggie Wells Cantonwine. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School, class of 1938, and he attended Purdue University.
He married Etta Dell Thomas on Aug. 15, 1943. She survives.
He was a lifelong farmer in Putnam County. He was a Dekalb corn dealer and an Amway dealer for many years.
He was a charter member of Greencastle Church of Christ, Putnam County Farm Bureau, Rural Youth and Putnam County Woodworkers Association. He was also a former elder and preacher in various locations for the Church of Christ.
His parents and one brother, Estle Cantonwine, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include one son, Dale Cantonwine and wife Velvet of Greencastle; one daughter, Judy Miller of Greencastle; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Alice Cantonwine.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Bro. Charles Sebree officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
