Mildred Mae Riggs Johnson, 90, of Carbon, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at 4:10 p.m. at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Born in Clay County on Feb. 25, 1913, she was the daughter of Tom and Mary Rhoda Archer Riggs.
She graduated from Brazil High School and Brazil Business College. Later, she owned and operated Mids Restaurant, near the old Hickory coal tipple. She attended the Rock Run Baptist Church.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
In 1947, she married Jim R. Johnson, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby White; three brothers, Leroy Riggs and wife, Helen, Luther Riggs and wife, Jean, and Jack C. Riggs; a sister-in-law, Betty Riggs; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1976; two sisters, Nina Davis and Nelda Acrea; and three brothers, George Riggs, Thomas Riggs and Glenn Riggs.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Piatt officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday prior to services.
