Ruth Annise Walbring Harris, 91, died at noon Monday, May 12, 2003, of heart failure at her residence at McCormick's Creek, Spencer, Ind.

She was born Nov. 11, 1911 in Jordan, Ind., to Fred A. and Flora M. Neese Walbring. They preceded her in death.

She attended and graduated from the Morgan Township Schools. As a youth, she was a member of Owen County 4-H and the Jordan Presbyterian Church.

She married Noah W. Harris March 5, 1928, in Indianapolis and had been married 56 years at the time of his death in Dec. 1984. They lived a short time in Indianapolis, then Reelsville, Ind., then Jordan, before settling in Spencer in 1937.

She was a housewife and a vocalist. She also played piano. She was at one time a member of the Plain Jane's Home Economics Club and was a frequent patron of Chambers Smorgasbord in Spencer.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carroll J. Harris Walker, in 1981; one grandson, Mark Wallace; one sister, Mable Walbring Gardner, and three brothers, Marvin "Doc" Walbring, Will Henry Walbring and Kenneth A. Walbring.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara L. Harris of Spencer; one son, Stanley M. Harris of Indianapolis; eight grandsons and one granddaughter, Terry Walker, Gregory Walker and John Walker, all of Spencer, Dale Walker and Thomas Wallace of Freedom, Ind., Andrew Walker of Martinsville, Ind., Jeffrey Wallace of Huntley, Ill., Patrick Harris of Racine, Wisc., and Anne Harris Jones of Fishers, Ind.; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Walbring Hanna and Marjorie Walbring Phillips, both of Greencastle, Ind., and one brother, Louis A. Walbring of Plainfield, Ind.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at West, Parrish, and Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon until time of service Saturday. Burial will be in Chambersville Cemetery. Elder Gary Brinson of Little Flock Baptist Church will officiate.
