Vestal Junior Hadley, 76, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at 5:05 a.m. at the Clay Health Center.
He was born Feb 6, 1927, in Clay County, the son of Vestal and Ruth Bayer Hadley. He attended Brazil High School.
He joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He worked for several years in retail sales, last at Wolf Clothing Store in Terre Haute. He was self-employed as a painting contractor. He also owned and operated the Hadley Tavern in Brazil.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 2 and the VFW No. 1127. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Shrine, a past member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges in Brazil and a past member of the Elks Lodge in Florida.
He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Hadley, and a niece, Terrie Cooper.
He is survived by his sister, Marian Murphy of Brazil; two brothers, Jim Hadley of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Bill Hadley of Brazil; one niece, Kay Krider of Springfield, Ill., and other extended family.
Graveside services will be May 27 at 1 p.m. at Cottage Hill Cemetery. Services will be provided by American Legion Post No. 2 and VFW No. 1127. At his request, cremation will take place.
