Billy Joe McIndoo of Terre Haute, formerly of Brazil, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at 5:39 a.m. in Union Hospital, Terre Haute.
He was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Brazil. He was the son of Henry and Dora Riddle McIndoo.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 1947 until Jan. 1954. He received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his military service.
During his life, he was employed as a painter, including work at Pitman's Auto Body Shop. He retired as a custodian from Indiana State University.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and a life member of VFW Post 1127. He attended the United Brethren Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jannena in July 2002; one sister, Mary E. Tabor; and two brothers, John and Raymond McIndoo.
He is survived by his sister, Alice Taylor of Brazil; two brothers, Tom McIndoo of Jenson Beach, Fla., and George McIndoo and wife Jane of Brazil; four stepchildren, Donna Fleenor, Dawn Jenkins and William "Bill" Garrison, all of Brazil, and Katie Wolf and husband Carl of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Kenneth W. Kaufmann, Jennifer Wolf, Samantha Starling, Codie Jenkins, Shaylee Jenkins, Sharaya Purkhier, Amy Wilson and Erica Bennett; three great-grandchildren, Waylon Wilson and Shailyn and Gerald Bennett; one brother-in-law, Larry Garrison of Plainfield; five sisters-in-law and their husbands, Ellen and Chris Harden of Brazil, Betty and Joe Hillenburgh of Terre Haute, Patty and Bob Golden of Worthington, Nancy and Tom Smith of Lewisburg, Mo., and Ilene Thompson of Center Point, and several other extended family members.
At his request, his body will be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be scheduled ata later date. Moore Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
