William Franklin Chapman, 78, of West Lafayette and formerly of Brazil, died at 10 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2003 at Heritage Health Care in West Lafayette, Ind.
He was born June 27, 1924 in McLeansboro, Ill. He was the son of Roland Earl and Lucille Daily Chapman. Following graduation from McLeansboro High School in 1938, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in electrical engineering.
During World War II, Chapman served in the U.S. Navy from May of 1943 until April of 1946 as an electricians mate, first class.
On September 5, 1946, he married Mary Ann Hensley in McLeansboro. He served as vice president of Arketex Ceramics Corp. and was later employed at Public Service Indiana. He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Brazil, where he had served as a deacon.
In addition to his employment at Arketex and PSI, he also enjoyed golf and working on his farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William Frend Chapman and his sister, Shirley Ann Chapman.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; one daughter, Jana Lyn Kessler and her husband Jeff of Lafayette; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Kristopher Kessler.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday with pastors Strader and Grimes officiating. Burial is at noon Wednesday at Blooming Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Calvary baptist Church at 526 S. Murphy Ave. in Brazil.
