Clara Edith Swinson Todd, 89, of Brazil, died Monday, June 9, 2003, at 7:10 p.m. at Cloverleaf Health Care.

She was born in Isabel, Kan., on Sept. 26, 1913, to James and Ursela Hewitt Swinson. After graduation, she attended Business College in Wichita, Kan.

She came to Indiana in 1932 to visit her aunt and uncle, Maude and James Stitzle, and stayed to work at Stitzle Motor Company and S&H Trucking Company.

She married W. Paul Todd in 1934. He died in 1961 and she took over ownership and management of Todd Brothers Grocery. She sold the business in 1970 and retired.

After having a stroke in 1999, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ed Young, near Brazil, until December, when she moved to Cloverleaf.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brazil and Wesley Circle, as well as several social groups. She also played cards with several groups on a regular basis.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Irene Rice of Fredonia, Kan., and two brothers, Clarence and Lawrence Swinson of Kansas.

Survivors are two daughters, Marian and Don Harrison and Janet and Ed Young of Brazil; two grandchildren, Amy Harrison Boor and husband David and Todd Harrison and wife Mandy; one great-grandson, Dylan Boor; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Rice of Brazil and one cousin, Marjory Sneddon of Brazil.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to time of service.
