Pauline C. Vitz, 92, of Knightsville, died at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility, Knightsville.
She was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Clay County to Herman Blair and Clara Ley Blair. She graduated from Clay City High School in 1929 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana State Teachers College in 1932. She then went on to earn her master's degree.
She married the Rev. Raymond Vitz on March 11, 1934. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1978.
She taught in the Cloverdale Community Schools and also in Deming and Fuqua Schools in Terre Haute before she retired. She lived in Riley for 20 years before moving to Terre Haute in 1984.
She was an active member of St. Mark United Church of Christ and ministered in various capacities in the churches in which her husband served in Haskins, Ohio; Terre Haute; Poland and Cory.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Paul H. Blair, on Aug. 5, 1996.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and William C. Neese, Poland, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Lita Vitz, Center Point; seven grandchildren, Janet Van Nevel and husband Michael, Elaine Berkowitz and husband Harry, Gary Allen Neese and wife Michele, Mark Vitz and wife Karen, David Vitz and fiancee Elizabeth Loudermilk; Brian Vitz and Ashley Vitz, and two great-grandchildren, Cole Neese and Sam Berkowitz.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark United Church of Christ, with burial in St. Peter's Cemetery, Clay City. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Callahan Funeral Home and from noon until time of service at the church.
