John T. "Jack" Handlin, 88, of Fontanet, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at 8:59 p.m. at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was born July 4, 1914, in Vigo County, the son of John S. and Anna Spoor Handlin, who both preceded him in death.
He married Janet Rankin on Dec. 18, 1934. They were married for over 53 years when she died May 12, 1988.
He was the former owner of Handlin Garage and Welding, a mechanic, a welder and he drove a school bus in Vigo and Clay Counties for over 45 years. He was a member of Community Missionary Church in Brazil.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Robert and Earl Handlin, and one sister, Juanita Orme.
He is survived by one son, Jim L. Handlin and wife Tyra of Fontanet; four sisters, Emma Hofmann and husband Leo of Brazil and Mary Koch and husband Joe, Thelma Vandevier and Mildred Jones, all of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Jimmy Handlin of Terre Haute and Jay Handlin and wife Terry of Houston, Texas; one stepgranddaughter, Angela Lohrman of Brazil; three great-grandchildren, Jarod, Casey and Mikaela, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. William Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery, west of Brazil. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday from 11 a.m. to time of service.
