Donald W. Bickel, 70, of Jasonville, Ind., died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at 10:15 p.m. at Greene County General Hospital in Linton, Ind.
He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Patricksburg, Ind., the son of Laymon W. Bickel and Thelma M. Loden Bickel.
He married Lucy E. Edelman Bickel on Sept. 27, 1953. He was a retired carpenter, farmer and salvage business operator. He was a Korean War Army veteran.
He was a lifelong member of Coalmont Church of God, a 21-year member of Gideon International and president of the Clay County Camp of Gideon International. He was active in Clay County politics for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Billy Turley.
Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jim Bradbury of Hymera, Ind., Diana and Kerry Mitchell of Jasonville, Nancy and Dennis Jones of Jasonville, Debbie and Steve Strahla of Jasonville and Cheryl and Jeff Reed of Indianapolis; two sons, Donnie Bickel and special friend Sheri Lannahan of Coalmont, Ind., and David Bickel and special friend Sandy Cazee of Jasonville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Joan Bickel of Columbus, Ind., Jack and Wanda Bickel of Coalmont, Bill and Gudrun Bickel of Washington State and Larry and Shirley Bickel of Columbus; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the McClannahan-Lee Funeral Home, 631 E. Main St., Jasonville, with the Rev. Harold Thomas and the Rev. J.F. Rehmel. Interment will follow at K of P Cemetery in Hymera. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and again on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service.
