Ralph Edwin "Ed" Wegner, 63 of Cory, died July 29, 2003, at 9:05 a.m. at Union Hospital. He had been in failing health for some time. He was born Nov. 16, 1939, in Clay County, the son of Richard Allen Wegner and Bernice A. Fretz Wegner. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1958. Oct. 7, 1967, he married Mary Anne Wright, she survives.
He worked as an assistant mail carrier, then later worked at Bemis and Co. He worked there for 24 years, retiring in 1994 due to health problems.
He was a member of the Cory United Methodist Church, serving as trustee and in many other capacities. He enjoyed mowing his yard and doing latch-hook rugs.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Wegner of Cory; his mother, Bernice Wegner of Brazil; one son, Anthony Edwin Wegner and his wife Bryanna of Terre Haute; one granddaughter, Alexandra Taylor Hughes; one sister, Delores Haddon and husband Roy of Reelsville; sister-in-law, Jean Wegner of Cincinnati, Ohio, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Jerry Canton of Cory; sister-in -law, Mary Lou Sullivan; many nieces and nephews and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Richard Warren Wegner; brother-in-law, Robert Simpson and his wife Patsy.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Pastors Owen Youngblood and Anthony Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cory Zion Cemetery.
