Dennis "Bill" Barnett Jr., 34, of Brazil, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, from injuries sustained in a semi-truck accident in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
He was born Jan. 4, 1969, in Terre Haute, the son of Dennis Barnett Sr. and Mona Stephens.
He graduated from Northview High School and completed two years at ISU. He served in the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Michelle Valentic Barnett, were married April 15, 1989.
He worked part-time for Hobby Trucking and also worked as a wildlife recovery technician. He built their home and helped Michelle with numerous classroom projects.
They enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with their many nieces and nephews. The always opened their home to children and animals in need of a home.
He is survived by his father, Dennis and wife Deanne of Brazil; his mother, Mona Christie and husband Tim of West Terre Haute; grandmother, Virginia "Jean" Barnett; brother, John Barnett; sisters, Christina Boland, Natasha Barnett and Casandra Barnett; stepbrother, Matt Christi and wife Bridgette; stepsister, Michelle Key and husband Wade; nieces Sara and Gabrielle Christie, Courtney Barnett, Masey Key and Alora and Mavery Boland; nephews, Wesley Key and Landon Boland.
He was preceded in death by an aunt, Nancy Lawson, and his grandfather, Charles "Pat" Barnett.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Hess and Father Rob Hausladen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at French Funeral Home and again Tuesday prior to services.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Otter Creek Middle School, "Barney Fund," to assist children in need, 4801 N. Lafayette, Terre Haute, IN 47805.
