Robert A. Cox, 68, of Staunton, died Aug. 8, 2003, at his residence.
He was born May 11, 1935, in Vigo County, the son of Joseph O. Cox and Mary Emmalou Smith Cox. On Nov. 17, 1956, he married Martha Jones Cox; she survives.
In his lifetime, he worked at Stran-Steel for 16 1/2 years, was a road supervisor of Hudson Oil Company and was last a dock supervisor for Oliver Trucking, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Jehovahs Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife of Staunton; their children, Cindy Carson of Indianapolis, Roberta Cox of Staunton and Dennis Cox of Tompkinsville, Ky.; grandchildren, Jamie Daniels and Cassie Cox of Staunton and Christopher Bryan Carson of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, James Deveney II, Jasmine Deveney and Deven Jacob Carson; five brothers, Marshall Cox, Joe Cox, Don Cox, Jim Cox and Richard Cox; four sisters, twin Thelma Fulk, Anna Spitler, Esther Wenzel and Loretta Morris; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Walls and Pearl Cox; and one brother, Paul Cox.
Services will be Tuesday at Lawson-Slack Funeral Home with Speaker David Wesley. At his request, cremation will follow. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Tuesday prior to services.
