Doris Monday, 71, of Brazil died Aug. 14, 2003, at 2:10 a.m. at Holly Hills Healthcare Facility. She had been a resident there for nine years.
Born Dec. 6, 1931, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Herbert J. Jackson and Eva I. Coble Jackson. She graduated from Cory High School and retired from R. R. Donnelly in 1992 where she was a mail clerk.
She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Church and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She was an accomplished seamstress, making quilts and afghans. She was well-known for baking apple pies and other desserts and was the secretary for the Republican Women's Club.
On Nov. 4, 1977, she married Gary Monday, who survives.
Other survivors include her sons Kirby Barrett and wife Jo of Brazil; Kevin Barrett and wife Darla of Cory; grandchildren Jaclyn Barrett, Kourtney Barrett, Justin C. Barrett, Jordan Leigh Barrett, Spenser Barrett and Seth Jackson Barrett; a stepson Stephen Monday and wife Joyce of Monroe, La.; two sisters, Della F. Critchfield of Terre Haute and Norma L. Rector of Clay City; a brother Jesse A. Jackson and wife Nina of Terre Haute; several nieces; nephews; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter Jessica Barrett; a grandson Skyla Freeman Barrett; a brother James W. Jackson; and a sister Ruth J. Stephens.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lawson-Slack Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cory Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be today 4-8 p.m. and again Saturday, one hour prior to services. Light a candle in her memory at www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
