Newton Cunningham, 53, of Brazil died at 12:57 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Born July 25, 1950, in Terre Haute, he was the son of Newton and Ruth Vermillion Cunningham, who are deceased.
Upon graduation from Gerstmeyer High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After being discharged, he served in the Army National Guard for nine years.
On Aug. 23, 1974, he married Lou Ann Gerber.
A member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Seelyville, he was a self-employed construction worker and for five years drove a City Cab in Brazil. Becoming disabled in 1978, he enjoyed spending time with hsi family, friends and grandchildren.
A sister, Shirley Borges; father-in-law, Harold Gerber; and an uncle, Ted Gerber are also deceased.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Lou Ann Cunningham; two daughters, Jennifer R. Norris of Brazil and Barbara Riley of Terre Haute; a son, Gregory L. Cunningham of Brazil; a granddaughter, Kristan N. Norris; a grandson, Alex Newton Riley; a mother-in-law Barbara Linton of Brazil; and a son-in-law, Scott Norris of Brazil; and extended families of Jimmy Norris and Renee Leslie and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at noon with visitation 10 a.m. until service time with Joe Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Cottage Hill Cemetery with military graveside services by American Legion Post 2 and VFW Post 1127.
