Elizabeth "Elsie" Mellon, 96, of Brazil died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at 2:40 a.m. at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. She had been a resident there for several years.
Born July 4, 1907, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Jacob and Sophia Szymezyk Chudy. She was raised and lived in chicago until 1988 when she moved to Brazil to be with her daughter. She worked in several factories in the Chicago area until her retirement. She loved to cook, care for her home and her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Vivian Koster of Chicago and Sandi Goebel of Brazil; 17 grandchildren, Rita Smith, Greg Short, Barbara Trigg, Michael Short, Theresa Keller, Nancy Short, Diane Moss, Terry Koster, Wayne Koster, Cheryl Mores, Mary Goetz, Tim Koster, Chuck Koster, Peggy Mellon, Jimmy Mellon, Debbie Peterson and Walter Goebel; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Chudy of Lee High Acres, Fla.; a sister, Natalie Chudy of Norridge, Ill.; and a sister-in-law Peggy Chudy of Springfield, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Bernard Mellon; two sons, Wilbur Mellon and James Mellon; three brothers Theodore Chudy, Stanley Chudy and Edward Chudy; a sister, Anne Carroo; a great-grandchild, Angelica Trigg; daughters-in-law Peggy Mellon and Gladys Mellon; sons-in-law, George Koster, Jim Short and Walt Goebel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Annunication Church with Father Rob Hausladen officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 7:30-10:45 a.m. prior to leaving for Mass. Rosary will be Wednesday at 7 p.m.
