Helen L. Kirkham, 87, of rural Brazil, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2003, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born in Clay County on April 12, 1916, she was the daughter of August and Elsie Yocom Emmert. She attended Brazil High School and was a 1933 graduate of Staunton High School.
On Jan. 31, 1935, she married Walter O. Kirkham.
She worked at Adamson Dry Cleaning. When she retired, she became a cook at Jackson Township Elementary School.
Memberships included Prairie City United Methodist Church and the Community Missionary Church of Brazil. She enjoyed gardening, especially cooking, and care-giving for her family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 22, 1992, and two brothers, Fred and Leo Emmert.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and LaVonna Kirkham of Oaktown; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Wayne Burns of Brazil; five grandchildren, Debra White and Doug Kirkham, both of Oaktown, Donna Yagle of White Oak, Texas, Lisa Chambers and Eric Burns, both of Brazil; 11 great-grandchildren, Chad and Joshua White, both of Oaktown, Shannon and Dereck Yagle, both of White Oak, Donnie, Clara and Devan Kirkham, all of Jasonville, Daylan and Darci Chambers, Harley and Destiny Burns, all of Brazil; many cousins; nieces; and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, in Miller memorial Chapel with the Rev. William E. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
