Donald E. Harpold, 70, of Brazil, died at 4:56 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 in Union Hospital, Terre Haute.
He was born in Indianapolis on June 10, 1933, the son of Everett Harpold and Maudie Hagan Harpold. He graduated from Howe High School and then attended the John Herron School of Art, also in Indianapolis.
For 40 years, he was the Arts and Publications Director for Detroit Diesel Allison, retiring in 1990. He moved to Brazil in 1994.
A member of the Staunton First Christian Church, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and wood carving.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Wilma Jean Harpold, in June 1977.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ballinger Green Harpold; five sons and their wives, Steve and Vicki Harpold and Brian and Theresa Harpold, all of Indianapolis, Jeff and Joann Harpold of Plainfield, Mike and Ann Harpold of Martinsville and Scott and Sharon Harpold of Mooresville; three stepsons and their wives, Tony and Ruth Green of Cartersville, Ga., David and Susie Green of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Patrick and Dee Green of Paris, Ill.; one sister, Eileen Dean of Washington, D.C.; one stepbrother, Ronald Harpold of Danville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and one nephew.
Memorial services will be Tuesday in the Staunton First Christian Church with the pastor, Bro. Doug Parkey, officiating. Following cremation, private interment rites will be at the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Ind.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Staunton as preferred remembrances. Miller Memorial Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
