George A. Dean, 80, of Terre Haute, died at Royal Oaks Healthcare at 10:50 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003.
Born July 8, 1923, he was the son of Harry H. and Nellie Givens Dean.
He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran, a former owner of Dean's Sheet Metal Co., a director of vocational education for both the State of Indiana and the State of Illinois.
Memberships included Terre Haute VFW, Rosedale Masonic Lodge 259 F.&A.M. and Wabash Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nellie Dean; a sister, Thelma Hamilton; and two brothers, Jack and Donald N. Dean.
Survivors inlcude his wife of 60 years, Betty Dean; three sons, Russell of Panama City, Fla., Gary and Tim, both of Terre Haute; two daughters, Marti Maynard and Marsha Hagemier, both of Terre Haute; four sisters, Wilma Jones of Terre Haute, Mildred Rittinghouse of Brazil, Dorothy Miller of Westville, Ill. and Jenny Kispert of Texas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Mattox Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Blackburn officiating.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Funeral Home with military graveside rites. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. today.
