Howard Winkler, 84, of Mountain Home, Ark., formerly of Lebanon, Ind., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003.
He was born Dec. 18, 1918, in Patricksburg, Ind., to David Clark and Gladys Irene Fullen Winkler. He married Joyce Marilyn Mohr on Sept. 26, 1947, at Indianapolis.
He was a retired construction inspector with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He moved from Lebanon to Mountain Home in 1957. He was an avid bowler and fisherman and raised miniature horses.
He was a member of the Mountain Home Bowling Hall of Fame and a life member of Ozark VFW Post No. 3246 and Alley-White American Legion Post No. 52.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Winkler and wife Jeanne of Danbury, Conn., and Ronald Winkler and special friend Debra Reed of Mountain Home; one daughter, Rita Barker and husband Larry C. of Mountain Home; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Winkler and wife Barbara of Fishers, Ind., and Jerry Winkler and wife Lynn of Reelsville, Ind.; and special friend, Ann Chloupek of Mountain Home.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Donald; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Noel Moore and the Rev. Scott Newman officiating. The North Central Arkansas Veterans Council Alley-White American Legion Post No. 52 and Ozark VFW Post No. 3246 are providing military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mountain Home Cemetery.
