Evelyn D. Hayes, 84, of Brazil, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Clay County, the daughter of Alva Hayes and Clara E. Morlan Hayes.
She was a homemaker and a caregiver to several elderly residents of Clay County. She was a member of the Brazil 1st Church of the Nazarene. She was active in the Tuesday morning prayer group at the church and in the Nazarenes Mission International. She enjoyed playing the piano at local nursing homes.
She is survived by her sisters, Edna Cornwell of Carbon, Laveda Krider, Ann Marlow and Carol Tyler and husband Melvin, all of Brazil; a brother, Forest Hayes and wife Janetta of Ohio; a sister, Myrna Mercer of Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Eva Hayes of Brazil; many nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Wood and Inez Robison; and two brothers, Willard Haes and Wilmer Hayes.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Brazil 1st Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Al Dicer and George Hewitt officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at French Funeral Home and again one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Calcutta Cemetery.
