Anna Mary Howald Robinson, 89, of Daleville, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at her home.

She graduated from Indiana State Teacher's College and taught elementary school in Indiana until she married and began raising children. She returned to teaching the late 1950s at Mount Tabor Elementary School in Blacksburg where she resided for many years.

She was an active member of the Agronomy Wives Association and the Blacksburg Homemakers Club.

When her husband took a job with the United Nations, she traveled abroad with him and was called upon to teach English to the family members of local dignitaries.

She was active in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Daleville.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Howald; her husband, Glen Hugh Robinson of Indiana; two sisters, Ethel Gertrude Howald and Bessie Malinda Howald; four brothers, Richard Henry, Charles Hayward, John Allen and Paul Edward Howald; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include a sister, Florence Trout of Carbon; three children, Glenn Philip Robinson and wife Kay of Carbon; Joan Elizabeth Habermann and husband Hermann of Arlington, Va.; Albert Lee Robinson and wife Vicki of Daleville and their daughter, Krista Renee; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Simpson-Tharp Funeral Home in Roanoke, Va., with the Rev. Robert Hutchins officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

A local memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home.
