Janet J. "Jan" Reed, 59, of Lebanon, Tenn., formerly of Clay County, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Union Hospital due to complications from cancer.

Born July 19, 1944, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Robert and Katherine Cooprider Hayman.

She graduated from Clay City High School and then attended Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbannais, Ill.

She was a teacher in the Kansas City area and later worked as a substitute teacher.

On July 19, 1965, she married Sherman Reed, who survives. She lived in Indianapolis 1988-1999 where she worked as a secretary for Ambassandor Leasing Co. She enjoyed being a mom and homemaker. Later she devoted herself to helping her husband with their ministry. They extablished Living Truth Ministries to which she contributed her musical talent, secretarial skills and teaching ability.

Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Hebeda of Lindenhurst, Ill; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Dawn Reed of Lebanon, Tenn.; grandchildren Zachary Hebeda, Jeremy Hebeda, Ashley Reed and Katherine Reed; her mother-in-law Ruth Reed of Clay City; and extended family in Clay and Vigo counties.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Union chapel Nazarene Church with the Rev. Mel Sorrenson, the Rev. Gary Wilson and the Rev. Merle Klink officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services.
