Joe R. Fischer, 72, of Cory, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Indiana University Medical Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1930, in Vigo County, he was the son of Clifford Raymond and Violet Mae Hauk Fischer.
He graduated from Cory High School class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 27, 1958, he married Patricia Joan Cafouras, who survives.
A self-employed grain farmer in Cory all his life, he was the previous owner of the feed store in Cory.
He was an avid Indiana University fan.
Memberships included the VFW and the American Legion in Riley, Ind.
Survivors include his wife; their children, Karl R. Fischer and wife Rachel, Kirk A. Fischer, Kelly J. Fischer and wife Ann, all of Cory; four grandchildren, Kelsie Fischer, Jarrett Fischer, Tayler Fischer and Devon Fischer; and a sister, Evelyn Carpenter of Brownsburg, Ind.
His parents preceded him in death.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. John Fischer officiating. Graveside military rites will be provided by the American Legion and the VFW. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Karl, Kirk and Kelly Fischer, Steven and Rob Carpenter and Carey Crafton. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Easter, Jim Love, Eddie Decker, Bob Fischer, Kenny Butts and Ken Tacoma.
Visitation will be today, 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services.
