John William Swearingen, 80, of Plainfield, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born on July 26, 1923, in Cloverland, Ind. He was the son of Ross Omer and Clara Hamm Swearingen. He graduated from Staunton High School in the class of 1941.
He was a bus driver for Trailways for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He also was a part-time driver for Beck Toyota. He was twice the recipient of a one million accident-free miles award with Trailways.
He was a member of Plainfield Christian Church and of Masonic Lodge No. 541 in Brazil.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Beverly Swearingen of Plainfield; children, Nancy Earls of Southport, Ind., Beth Parrish of Fishers, Ind., Mindy Swearingen of Southport, John A. Swearingen of Clayton, Ind., and Mark Swearingen of St. Louis; brothers, Fred Swearingen of Brazil and Don Swearingen of Clay City; and sister, Anna Mae Swearingen of Brazil.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Plainfield Christian Church, 800 Dan Jones Rd., Plainfield, with Steve White officiating. Graveside services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil. Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
