\John E. Wilson, 74, a resident of the Clay City area for the past seven years after moving from Florida, died at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Atlantic City, N.J., the son of John Wesley and Frances Leatherberry Wilson, who preceded him in death.
An Air Force Veteran, he was a captain and acting battalion chief for the Atlantic City Fire Department, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed baking, ceramics and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley E. Wilson; his second wife, Charlotta "Dotty" Wilson; one son, John Wesley Wilson; and two grandchildren, John Wesley Wilson and Brittney Nicole Wilson.
Surviving are one son, John J. Wilson and wife Barbara J. of Clay City; five daughters, Emily F. Aguizera of San Bernadino, Calif., Marie E. Wilson of Linwood, N.J., Lora E. Francesco and husband Al of Elwood, N.J., Ethel L. Ullo of Owen County, Ind., and Bonnie Lee Boscon of Somers Point, N.J.; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
Services will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, with Lonnie Rector officiating. Military services will follow immediately at the funeral home, given by VFW No. 6606 and American Legion No. 225. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of service. At his request, he will be cremated.
