Bertha B. Grimes Hoffman Porter, 86, of Springville, Ind., and formerly of Brazil, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in Westview Manor Nursing Center, Bedford, Ind.
Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Brazil, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Franklin Grimes and Emily Gaynelle McKenzie Grimes. A graduate of Staunton High School, she attended Terre Haute Vocational School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Clay County Hospital and as an office nurse for Dr. Curt Oehler.
On Oct. 20, 1935, she married J.. Harvey Hoffman who preceded her in death on May 16, 1968. Her second husband, Lee C. Porter, whom she married on July 11, 1969, died on Jan. 19, 1993. Her son, Rex Linn Hoffman; two brothers, Raymond and Archie Grimes; and her sister, Gertrude Raines, also preceded her.
Survivors include a daughter, Thelma Valentine and husband, Larry, of Springfield; two sons, Ronald Hoffman and wife, Julie, of San Antonio, Texas, and Lawrence Hoffman and his wife, Kiva, of Coldwater, Mich.; a stepson; two stepdaughters; 14 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at Moore Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of service. On Thursday, a visitation will be held 3:30 - 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery.
