S. Opal Detro, 92, of Greencastle, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, 2003, at the Asbury Towers Retirement Home in Greencastle.

She was born March 24, 1911, in Woodstock, Ky., the daughter of Thomas and Susie Gastineau Abbot. She married Forest Detro on July 29, 1932, and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1984.

She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a Charter member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church in Cloverdale. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 34:8, "O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man that trusteth in him."

Survivors include three sons, Don Detro, Dale Detro and wife Sue and Dan Detro and wife Jessie, all of Bainbridge; one sister, Bessie Osborne of Florida; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, several brothers and sisters and two grandsons.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Jerry Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
