Thelma Altemiller, 78, of Poland, died at 5:29 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Born Dec. 8, 1924, in Robinson, Ill., she was the daughter of Harley Harold Crawford and Mary Coombs Crawford.
She was a homemaker and had worked 10 years at Mallory Co. in Greencastle.
She attended the Assembly of God Church while growing up and recently became a member of the Zion United Church of Christ.
She was also a lifetime member of the Tri County Community club.
Her husband, Lewis B. "Bummy" Altemiller Sr., whom she married July 4, 1942, in Terre Haute, preceded her in death in 1975. Survivors include three children; Junior Altemiller and his wife, Kay, of Poland, Vic Altemiller and his wife, Karen, of Harmony and Christene Ellis of Brazil; four grandchildren, Dewayne Altemiller, L.L. "Lori" Altemiller, Anna Coda and Pamela Ellis; an uncle, Cliff Coombs of Toledo, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Clara Terry of Belle Union and Mary Crawford of Terre Haute; and several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Ralph Ellis; a brother, Harold Eugene Crawford; and three grandchildren, Wendy Morlan Thomas, Jessica Altemiller and Josh Altemiller.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Poland Chapel Cemetery. Visistation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the TriCounty Community Club with envelopes available in the funeral home.
