Rita Kay Pierce, 36, of Poland, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at her residence after fighting cancer for more than a year.
Born June 28, 1967, in Bloomington, Ind., she was the daughter of Rex and Shirley Giltz Cook.
She graduated from Northview High School and married Doug Pierce on Feb. 1, 1992. He survives.
She enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and working in her flowerbeds at home. She was devoted to her husband and son.
Survivors include her husband; her son, Douglas Alan Pierce II of Poland; her father, Rex Cook of Poland; her mother-in-law, Nancy Pierce of Brazil; her grandmother-in-law, Inez Galbraith of Brazil; two sisters, Robin and Bob Easton of Terre Haute and Rhonda Rhodes of New Albany, Ind.; two brothers, Ronald E. and Jennifer Sendmeyer of Shelburn, Ind. and Randall E. and Shirley Sendmeyer of Jeffersonville, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Kevin Pierce of Brazil; several nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Cook, on March 10, 2003.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society or to the Poland Park.
