Harry Leo Dowell Jr., 77, of Coal City died at 2:18 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, in his residence.
Born April 15, 1926, in Fontanet, Ind., he was the son of Harry Sr. and Opal Goshen Dowell, who have preceded him in death.
On Feb. 12, 1948, he married Marjorie Albright, who preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 1996.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he had been employed by Columbia Records and retired from Wabash Fibre Box. He was a member of the American Legion Post 285 in Spencer, Ind., and the VFW Post 6606 in Clay City
He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Rachel Jane Dowell, Dixie Lee White and Rebecca Sue Dowell; a grandson, Michael Wayne Dowell; a brother, Leon Dowell; and a sister, Nora White Plew.
Survivors include five daughters, Carolyn Jean Dowell of Indianapolis, Vicki Ledgerwood of Freedom, Ind., Cynthia Smith, Sally Carter and Tina Dowell, all of Spencer; two sons, Steve Dowell and John Dowell, both of Coal City; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Adrian "Jim" McClelland of San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Cole Cemetery, with Richard Booe officiating. Military services will be performed by VFW Post 6606.
