Chester C. Bell, 85, of Terre Haute, a retired Parke County farmer, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Harborside Healthcare. He previously resided at Westminster Village in Terre Haute.
Born in Jackson Township, Parke County, on Jan. 9, 1918, the son of Ernest and Anne Thomas Bell. A 1936 graduate of Otter Creek High School in Vigo County, he attended Purdue University.
A former trustee of Jackson Township, he was a Democratic precinct committeeman for the township and drove a school bus for the Van Buren Conolidated School Corp. He was also a member of the Parke County Planning and Zoning Commission and the 4-H Building and Grounds Committee.
He was a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Terre Haute.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Mary Gladys Bell, in 1991; a son, Marvin L. Bell, in 1965; two brothers, Earl and Otis Bell; a sister, Nila Ellington; and a grandson.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred T. Bell; two sons and their wives, Glenn E. and Janice Bell, of Eaterford, Mich., and Steven R. and Sherry Woll, of Crawfordsville, Ind.; two daughters, Lois Luedeman, of rural Brazil, and Doris J. Smith, of Indianapolis; two sisters, Vera Adams, of Terre Haute, and Alta Mae Smith, of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces; and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Miller Memorial Chapel with Brother Allen Ketchersid officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today.
