Thomas Wayne Nussel, 56, of Brazil, died Dec. 6, 2003 at 7:25 p.m., in Union Hospital.
He was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Brazil, the son of Wayne Nussel and Marclene Fogel Nussel. He graduated from Staunton High School, class of 1965. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, receiving several commendations, including the Purple Heart.
When he returned home from the service, he worked for Martin-Marietta. Later, he worked for Underwood Trucking and last for Brazil Trucking, Inc.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 2. Additionally, he was a life member of the VFW # 1127, Knightsvillle Lodge # 409, F & A.M., and a member of the Harley Owners Group. He enjoyed fishing, cooking for his family, and riding his Harley. On Oct. 12, 2003, he married Kim Flora Nussel, who survives.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Marcelene Nussel, of Brazil; his wife; four stepchildren, Joshua O'Brien, and Casey, Shelby, and Danielle Gossage, all of Brazil; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Kathy Nussel, of Pittsboro; one niece, Kristen Nussel; one nephew, Adam Nussel; his father-in-law, Gary Flora, and a life-long friend, Jerry Johnson.
Services will be held Wed. at 11 a.m. at French Funeral Home, with Pastors Tony Alstott and Dennis Leek officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 p.m., and again Wednesday, prior to services.
