Adrian L. Oxby, 85, of Brazil died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at his home following a short illness.
Born July 8, 1918, in Pike County, he was the son of John and Audie Chapman Oxby. A graduate of Spurgeon High School in 1937, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1944.
On April 6, 1940, he married Freda Fiscus Oxby in the home of Brother Peck in Sullivan County.
He worked at Whirlpool in Evansville until it closed down. He then worked at the Evansville Courier and Press as a route manager.
In 1959, he began working for Farm Bureau Insurance as a claims adjuster when he moved to Clay County. He last worked for CBS in Terre Haute as a supervisor in the injection mold plant, retiring in 1986. Following retirement, he remained active, delivering Meals on Wheels for the elderly.
He was a member of the Meridian Street Church of Christ in Brazil and the Lynnville, Ind., Masonic Lodge 396.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; a son, Johnny Oxby and his wife, Connie, of Clay City; a daughter, Karen Tiefel and her husband, Jerry, of rural Brazil; five grandchildren, Becky Oxby of Terre Haute, Brenda Hayden of Center Point, John Brian Oxby of Princeton, Ind., Mike Tiefel and Melissa Burgess, both of Terre Haute; seven great-grandchildren, Harley and Haylee Miller of Brazil, Leslie Burgess of Terre Haute, Adrian Tiefel of Terre Haute, Breanna Van Sickle, Jerick Hayden of Center Point, John Oxby Jr. of Princeton.
His parents preceded him in death.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in French Funeral Home with Brother Les Dowden officiating. Burial will follow in Spurgeon Cemetery in Pike County.
Visitation will be Monday, 4-8 p.m. and again, Tuesday, prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
