John W. Haltom, 74 of Plainfield, formerly of the Poland area, died Dec. 12, 2003, at 8:57 a.m. at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital.
Born Oct. 21, 1929, in Cloverdale, he was the son of William and Nina Kelly Haltom. He graduated from Cloverdale High School. He worked at the Allison plant in Indianapolis for several years before retirement. On Aug. 17, 1959, he married Dorothy Duncan Haltom; she survives.
He was a member of the UAW; and was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Greencastle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Dawn White and Dora Corbett; one grandson; A.J. Romeo, and one granddaughter; Kayla Haltom.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Plainfield; five sons; Alan Haltom and his wife, Vickie, of Plainfield, Michael Davidson of Palm Dale, Calif., Mark Haltom and wife Tonya of Martinsville, Ind., Ronald Lyon of Florida, J.B. Hume of Kansas City, Mo., four daughters; Brenda Haltom of Rhode Island, Susie Armstrong of Mississippi, Tonya Armstrong of West Virginia, and Ann Canzler of Fayetteville, Ark., 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; Marcella Kennett of Graysville, Ind., Laura "Tootsie" Cummings of Cloverdale, Beverly Jones and husband Kenny of Cloverdale, Sharon Galloway and husband Joe of Cloverdale, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in French Funeral Home with Brother Hubert Greer officiating. Burial will follow at Poland Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and again Wednesday prior to services.
