Delilah J. Dewey, 88 of Brazil, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Cloverleaf Healthcare where she had been a resident for several years.
Born Aug. 23, 1915, in Lena, Ind., she was the daughter of Charles and Fannie Thomas Gaskill. In 1933 she graduated from Brazil High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Drama Club. Following graduation from high school she attended the Indianapolis Beauty College and began a career of over 50 years as a beauty shop operator until her retirement.
On Feb. 22, 1942, she married Thomas L. Dewey who preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1987. She attended the Harrison Street Church of Christ and was a member of the Business and Professional Women organization. She enjoyed walking, traveling, reading, sewing and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom, and her brother, Edgar Gaskill.
Survivors include cousins, Olive Sumner, Bertie Ooley, both of Brazil, and Leslie, Phil, Dave and Dean Reinoehl; and extended family.
Private graveside funeral services were conducted Monday at Cottage Hill Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home assisted with funeral arrangements.
