Caroline L. Hoffman Schwendemann, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, in her daughter's home in Plainfield, Ind.

She was born Sept. 5, 1921, the daughter of Charles Otis and Willie Mae Noland Johnson.

She was the retired owner of Schwendemann's Upholstery shop in Terre Haute. She was a long-time member of the Eastern Star of Brazil and attended Souls Harbor with her daughter and family for a time.

Survivors include four daughters, Sharon and Ken Sanders, Fonda and Ron Grigsby, Judee Baysinger and Sue Schwendemann; one son, Stephen and Carolyn Hoffman; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, William E. Schwendemann; her parents; and three sisters, Juanita Schultz, Geneva Heiliger and Cindy Louise Johnson; two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Glen Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation is scheduled at Flanner and Buchanan.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
