Max Earl Hopkins, 85, of Brazil died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in his residence.
Born Sept. 3, 1918, in Brazil, he was the son of Ross and Nelle Schoppenhorst Hopkins.
He graduated from Ashboro High School and was a farm in Clay County all his working years.
On Oct. 12, 1940, he married Cordy "Bertie" Lashbrook Hopkins, who preceded him in death in 1986.
He enjoyed golf and whittling ornately carved wooden canes. He gave them to those who needed, or simply enjoyed them.
Survivors include a daughter, Micki Church and husband, Jerry, of Linton; a son, Tony Hopkins and wife, Nancy, of Brazil; a daughter-in-law, Karen Hopkins of Brazil; nine grandchildren, Tim and Troy Church, Tammy Knox, Tracy Hunt, Tanya Johnson, Dustin Hopkins, Julie Sharton, Kerry Alcos and Leslie Allen; 20 great-grandchildren; a companion, Florence Lynch; several nieces and nephews; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Jerry and Steven Joe Hopkins; a granddaughter, Misty Hopkins Newport; two brothers, Rex and Bill Hopkins; and two sisters, Pauline Stigler and Macil Free.
There will be no services.
