Betty Jane Clephane, 68, a resident of Coal City since 1993, formerly of Indianapolis, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at her residence.
Born Oct. 30, 1935, in Marion County, Ind., the daughter of Katherine Rowe, who preceded her in death.
She was a 1953 graduate of Warren Central High School. On May 2, 1953, she married Leo Clephane in Martinsville.
She retired in 1993 as cafeteria manager at Brookview Elementary School after 20 years of service. A member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 141 in Coal City, she was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Leo Clephane, of Coal City; a daughter, Paula Jane Oliphant and husband, Mark, of Indianapolis; a son, Dana Kevin Clephane and wife, Janette, of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Serine Christine Clephane and Sarah Katherine Oliphant, both of Indianapolis; and twin brothers, Robert Thomas and Richard Lee Oliphant, both of Indianapolis.
Visitation will be Tuesday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City and Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, Indianapolis.
Services will be Thursday at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor Buddy Beard officiating. Burial will be in Washington Park Cemetery and Mausoleum in Indianapolis.
