E. Lucille Oswalt, 90, of Bedford, Ind., formerly of Mitchell, Ind., died at 7:13 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1913, in Brazil Township, Clay County, she was the daughter of Jasper Aden and Charlotte "Lottie" (Hock) Turner. She married James T. Oswalt, M.D., on Dec. 22, 1937. He died Jan. 13, 1980.
She was a member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church, Phi Beta Psi sorority and Bedford Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross during World War II and a 1931 graduate of Brazil High School.
Survivors include a son, James T. Oswalt Jr., and wife, Barbara, of Mitchell; a daughter, Evelyn Jean Williams and husband, Rob, of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Alice Oswalt, Vincent Oswalt and wife, Jennifer, Rebecca Thacker, Matt Williams and wife, Heidi, and Nathan Williams and wife, Mary Beth; four stepgrandchildren, Pam Miller, Bradley Miller, Dan Miller and wife, Kendra, and Andrew Miller and wife, Stacy; three great-grandchildren, Megan Oswalt, Ryan Oswalt and Kate Williams; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Logan Miller and Jade Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Betty Jean Riley.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home, with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call 2-7 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Casketbearers include Vincent Oswalt, Matt Williams, Nathan Williams, Dan Miller, Mark Moore and Gary Flynn.
Memorial gifts may be made to Mitchell Community Schools Scholarship Foundation in care of the funeral home.
