Louise Smith, 92, of Coal City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Owen Valley Healthcare Facility. She had been there one day.

Born Oct. 1, 1911, in Owen County, she was the daughter of John Madison "Matt" Slough and Ada Dyar Slough.

She graduated from Coal City High School and later married Raymond A. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1988. During World War II, she worked at the Naval Base in Williamsburg, Va., while her husband was in the Navy.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing the organ, reading and working in her flowers. She also had strawberries.

Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Coleta "Katie" Slough of Linton, Ind., and Von and Madona Slough of Coal City; two nieces and three nephews, Jackie Lynn Harris, Alberta Clements, Warren Ray Haviland, Ricky Earl Slough and Phil Slough; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Fern Bucklew, Carrie Haviland and Mary Helen Soeffing; a brother, Frank Slough; and a niece, Carol Ann McNew.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with the Rev. Lyle Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Beech Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services.
