Dan Smith, 91, of Brazil, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at home.
Born in Clay County on Aug. 26, 1912, he was the son of Samuel and Cora Nickolson Smith.
He served in the Army during World War II and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his wife, Emma, and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Donald and Barbara Smith of Ellettsville, Ind., Stanley and Shirley Smith of Hopkinsville, Ky., Roberta and Jerry Green of Brazil, David and Dorothy Smith of Speedway, Ind., and Judy and Richard Smith of Brazil; a sister, Mary Patton of Houston, Texas; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, William A. Smith, Melissa Slack, Martha Skomp and Ressie Harris.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Lawson-Slack Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Mitchell Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta Cemetery.
